Jonny Crickets’ Pinocchio Horror Film Poster
To enrich my Instagram portfolio, @designersaylor, I embarked on a concept project inspired by artist Jonny Crickets' 3D horror-comedy series featuring Pinocchio. My goal? Craft a horror film poster with a vintage twist while embracing the 2023 design trend of brutalism design. Leveraging Crickets' eerie frames, I manipulated them in Photoshop, applying threshold adjustments and curve tweaks for just the right rough, threshold setting. Despite the challenges of lower resolution screenshots and tricky lighting, I achieved the desired rough aesthetic.
For an eye-catching color grade, I employed a gradient map, experimenting with colors such as teal grey, purple tan, and red-purple combos. The teal grey tone prevailed, though the purple tan evoked a 1920s film poster charm, according to a friend of mine. Originally intended for social media sharing, this poster evolved into a tribute to Jonny Crickets, merging his tone with my design flair.
