Josh Wine Vs. Zach Wine
Hey there, wine enthusiasts! 🍷 Let me spill the details on a recent design adventure inspired by none other than the infamous Josh Cellar wine. So, some backstory for this design project. I was at my local Fry’s grocery store the other day and while I was looking for my go to wine, Stella Rosa, I discovered a wine called Josh. You heard me – Josh wine.
For many, Josh wine has become a meme throughout social media, people sharing pictures of the wine brand with funny captions, including “last night we let the Josh talk.” It got me thinking though – what would a competitor of Josh wine look like? This is where my design skills shined!
I went on social media and ran a poll, asking my followers the question “what name comes to mind when you think of a frat guy/jock?” With many answering the poll, the one name that stood out to meet that could establish quite the non-existing rivalry was Zach. Don’t get me wrong, there were some other names that were good runner ups, including Jason and Brad.
Once I started designing the label, the idea was to keep it pretty minimal but with a sense of elegance and authority to it. I wanted the wine to feel like it represented a high end brand while still being in on the joke that it’s just the name of what people think of when it comes to frat boys/jocks. Ended up using the typeface Fleur for the name and the date of its “conception,” despite it being made in 2024 on February 1st. Nobody wants to drink a wine that has been aged for one day though!
Slapped the design onto some Photoshop bottle mockups, presenting it as if it were a legitimate product. I love using mockups because it really helps sell the authenticity of the design. This made for a fun Instagram reel to share on my social media portfolio. Perhaps Zach wine will attract the attention of the legendary Josh wine!
