October Surprise Film Poster

Client: Maggie Pour
Project Date: February 2023
Role: Graphic Designer

I was hired by Maggie Pour, a director based out of Los Angeles, to design a poster for her film October Surprise, based on the conspiracy theory of Ronald Reagan making deals with Iran during his presidential campaign in 1980. For the design process, I wanted to create a sort of “campaign poster” look, but I also wanted the design to be a bit experimental in terms of trying something unique. For example, instead of just using a picture of Ronald Reagan for the campaign poster, I decided to mask Iranian revolutionary Ruhollah Khomeini’s face with Reagan’s, capturing the idea that they were two sides of the same coin regarding this story. In addition, I wanted the poster to have a rough print, halftone look, almost as if it were printed for an old newspaper.
